1 The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.
2 The Lord is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people.
3 Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.
We should be in awe of God. He is not just a friend that is beside you when you need Him, that hears you when you call to Him, that helps you when you need help, that delivers you from your afflictions and that watches over you and protects you. He is the Almighty, All knowing, All seeing God of the entire Universe. He is high above other gods throughout all of creation. He reigns on high. We should never forget who our God is, and that should make us tremble. At the bat of an eye He cud wipe out the earth, the solar system or the galaxy. At the snap of His fingers He could turn you back to dust if He so desired. There is nothing too hard for Him.
Sometimes I think we take Him for granted, like He owes us something. We assume He will have mercy on us. We assume He will pour out His grace to us. We assume he wants to bless us. We assume He will answer our prayers, and even worse, that He will answer them the way we want Him to. he does not have to do any of these things. if He destroyed us tomorrow, He would be just in doing so. This world is turning it’s back on Him so fast, and much of the church is going along for the ride. We should be trembling at His footstool, repenting of our sin, humbling ourselves before Him. We should be praising His great and terrible name, for it is holy. Let us never forget who we serve!
4 The king’s strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.
5 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.
He loves judgment. That is why am so surprised He hasn’t judged us so far. He hasn’t judged the church for moving toward the world in many of it’s practices. He hasn’t judged me for my sinful ways, thank God. Do still practice any sinful ways? Remember that the Lord loves judgment. He looks for righteousness. Now judgment is a two edged sword. Judgment also rewards the righteous, those who are pure in heart and conduct. if you are in that group, then praise God. The judgment you will experience will be a blessing, not a curse.
So let’s exalt Him. Let’s lift Him up high. Let’s worship at His footstool. He deserves our praise. We see unrighteous judgment here all the time. Instead of simply interpreting the current law, they make new law. That s not judgment. Judgment takes a stand between right and wrong, it does not create a new right. Judgment does not say we have to tolerate – it is blind to differences in any societal sense. Judgment should be righteous, not tainted with prejudice or bias. God is Holy, and His judgment is true. That is why we should exalt Hi.
6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the Lord, and he answered them.
7 He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them.
8 Thou answeredst them, O Lord our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.
9 Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy.
In ancient times, the men of God called upon God, and He heard them and answered them. He forgave them for the when they slipped from the way. They did their best to keep His testimonies and ordinances, and He forgave them when they did not. He is a loving God, who somehow tolerates our inadequacies. He showed His love to them in he wilderness. leading them for 40 years eventually to the promised land. He never left their side.
He is here with us right now. That same God that led with a fire by day and a cloud by night is right here. The one who opened the Red Sea, and then drowned the enemy is here with you right now. The God who set the stars in place, who created the heavens and the earth, who rescued Daniel in the Lions den – He is with you always. And He is holy. You cannot tarnish that holiness. he wants you to draw closer to Him so that holiness will be a part of you. Will you come and worship at His holy hill?
