Psalm 108 A Psalm of David
1 O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.
2 Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
3 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.
4 For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.
His heart is fixed. it is established. it is firm. It is prepared. All of these things are in he meaning of the word fixed. When David says this, he is saying that his heart will not move from praising God. He is established in that, and he will never forsake that. He is fixed on serving the Lord. I have a friend who sings a song that goes “My heart is fixed. My mind’s made up. I am determined I’m not about to give up”. That’s what David is saying here. His heart s staying right where it is – praising God! I need to fix my heart on God that way too. I need to be intent on praising Him no matter what – be fixed on lifting Him up day to day, moment to moment.
David is going to wake up early and praise the Lord or His mercy and truth. Perhaps when you first get up i the morning you just can’t think of anything to praise Him for. The day just started and you don;t know how it will turn out – how are you going to praise Him when you don’t know yet what is coming? David gives us a key here. Just praise Him for His mercy and truth! It doesn’t matter what the day brings, you can depend it will be full of God’s mercy and truth. We can always praise Him for that.
5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;
6 That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.
7 God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
9 Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.
It’s all God’s. Every nation, every tribe – they are all His. Each one has a purpose in His plan. Epharaim is the strength of His head, Moab is His wash pot, He will triumph over Phillistia. It is no different today. Gd’s plans are at work in he United States, in Australia , in Russian, in Iran. His glory is above all the earth, and all the nations are subject to Him. if you feel like things are getting out of control, just remember that He is in control. God will do as he pleases, and the end result will always be for your good.
10 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
11 Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?
12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
God will bring us into the strong city, the fortress, the place of refuge. He will protect us from the danger that lurks in the nations. He will make us triumph over whatever arises. God will tread down the enemy, not us. He will make us to triumph and we shall do valiantly. This is a promise from God.
Do you feel weak, unable to stand against the enemy right now? Are there things that are weighing you down, and causing your faith to weaken? Don’t worry or fret. God knows exactly where you are. He brought this passage to you today because He knew you needed it. Fix your heart on God and away from your troubles. He has you in the palm of His hand, and he will protect you. Just trust Him today. Through God, you will do valiantly!
