Walk in the Light

The Light.  What does it mean what Jesus says walk in the Light?  I have pondered that for a long time, and last night, in the middle of the night, the Holy Spirit gave me something to share.  It may be evident to all of you, but to me it was like a flash of Light (no pun intended)

In the beginning, the first thing created was Light.  The Holy Spirit was hovering over the void, bleak, lifeless earth, and God (The Father) sent the Word (Jesus) and spoke “Let there be Light”.  Now, the sun, moon and stars were not created until the 4th day.  It was not until then that the plant life needed that kind of light to sustain growth – everything done in the proper order.  So what was this light that was created on the first day?

The Light created on the first day was knowledge to do good, to have mercy, to have grace, to love, to have compassion, to have integrity and hope.  All the goodness of righteousness of God s the Light that  went forth that day.  When creation was being completed, each day God sat back  and said it was good.  That was the Light.

When we walk in the light, we walk in the knowledge of doing good.  This allows us to live a life consistent with Phil 4:8 and 1 Cor 13, a life that is near impossible without the Light.  Jesus tells us that we are the Light of this world (Matt 5:14-15). We must let out light shine, just as Jesus did when He was in this earth He went about doing good, loving the people, preaching the good news, healing the sick and lame, giving people hope, walking in integrity in everything He did, not complaining or murmuring, displaying grace and mercy to all.  Walking in the light means all these things.

Let us be examples of the brightest light, not some 40 watt light bulb, but a 1000 watt searchlight.  Let us extinguish the darkness of this world and shine brightly for all to see the glorious thing God has done in our lives.  He has freed us from the depths of sin and adopted us into His family.  What a glorious thing!
