The First Trial (around 3 AM)

John 18:13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.  14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

Annas was father-in-law to Caiaphas, the high priest.  They brought Jesus to Annas first from the garden.  Annas was to get him ready to go to the high priest.  There was no doubt Annas saw Jesus as guilty of something, because He didn’t have Him very long.  We do not even have any recorded question that were asked by Annas.  He simply held Him until Caiaphas and the council were ready for Him.

Waiting is no fun.  At the doctor’s office, I quite often have to wait, and I just want to get everything done and over with.  But these offices don’t call you patients for nothing!  It is important for us to be patient at all times.  Jesus knew what was coming, yet was patient enough to wait for each step to unfold.  Let’s make sure we display that kind of patience when facing difficult times, or people who are our to get us.
