All Creation Praises Him

Psalm 148  King James Version (KJV)

1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the Lord from the heavens: praise him in the heights.

2 Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.

3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.

4 Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.

5 Let them praise the name of the Lord: for he commanded, and they were created.

6 He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.

This psalm is a complete Psalm of praise. David calls on all of creation to lift up the praise of the Lord and I believe creation listens. As I look at the stars on a cloudless night I marvel at the majesty of God. Did you know that the nearest star is about 25 trillion miles away and the Milky Way galaxy contains upwards of 100 Billion Stars.  That’s just one galaxy!  The immensity of the heavens just blows me away. The vastness of space is an incredible testimony of how big our God is.
The heavens above praise him by the orchestration and the patterns that they show us each night. In ancient days stars were looked upon as guides. If you could find the North Star you could go any direction you wanted to because it remains constant. But everything else revolves around it. In different seasons we get to see different stars. I love the sight of Orion rising in the fall in the Eastern sky.  It’s absolutely beautiful and breathtaking how big that constellation is when it’s just on the horizon. If you’ve never seen it take time to do so.
All the angels in the heavenly host lift His praises. We can see this over and over again in Revelations. They are worshiping and praising around His throne on a continual basis (Rev 4:10-11, 5:11-13,  7:10-12, for example). They know His mercy and His grace. They understand what He’s done for mankind. They have been with Him forever and they haven’t run out of praise yet. I can’t wait to join that heavenly chorus and sing His praises for eternity.
The sun and the moon praise Him. I’m always amazed at the different phases of the Moon and how it’s schedule is so consistent. The high and low tides are timed because of the moon, men base the best fishing times and the planting of gardens on the phase of the moon. It’s incredible how man has come to look to the Moon as a sign. The moon praises the Lord, guiding His people and showing them the seasons. The sun praises the Lord with its rays hitting the clouds in the morning and in the evening, leaving us with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. If you don’t praise the Lord when you see a beautiful sunset then there’s something wrong with you. The majesty and the detail and the ever-changing colors simply take my breath away.  It’s not unusual for me to be in tears watching a beautiful sunset and knowing it’s the majesty of God I am looking at.
And why shouldn’t the heavens praise Him?  After all, He created them.  He’s the one who put the stars in place. He’s the one who put the sun and the moon where they are. He’s the one who put us on this Earth at just the right distance from the sun to sustain our life. All creation praises His name because He has established His creation forever.

7 Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

8 Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

9 Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:

Even the earth around us and the weather give praise to the Lord. The mountains and the hills and the trees all praise the Lord. Have you ever seen the mountains far off with the snow-capped peaks and just relished in their beauty? Or perhaps you’ve been driving around on the sides of those mountains and seen the mist down in the valley – filling the valleys with what seems to be cotton,  It’s so beautiful and it’s all creation giving praise to God. Have you ever looked at the beauty of a majestic thundercloud and just been in awe?  To me there’s nothing more magnificent then a huge thunderstorm with the clouds billowing high above the sky.  As it passes and the sun comes out behind it you see that rainbow and then you see the sun reflecting off the top of those clouds and the lightning coming down underneath them.  What a magnificent sight! All for the glory of God.

10 Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl:

11 Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:

12 Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:

Nothing is excluded. No Beast, no flying thing, no king or prince, no maiden or man or child. All should seek to praise the Lord and give Him the glory that He deserves. He rains on the just and the unjust. His mercy is everlasting to everyone on this earth. There were several times that God threatened to destroy all of Israel but Moses made intercession and convinced God not to do it.  He said that He would never bring a flood to cover the whole earth again. You know, the way this world is going God would be very justified in just wiping it out. He could take us all out of here and start all over again because sin has become so prevalent. But the love of God does not do that.   Instead He listens for our cry and waits for us to call on Him in times of trouble so that He can help. Even those that aren’t serving Him are blessed by Him. And He has Mercy on them, keeping them alive so that possibly one day they will come to know our great God.  He deserves our praise every single hour  of the day, every day of the week, every week of the year, every year we’re alive

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

14 He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the Lord.

His excellent Name – the matchless name of Jesus – at which every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that he is Lord (Phil 2:10-11). I prefer to confess it now! Jesus Christ is my Lord and my savior.  God has placed Him above all things (Phil 2:9). There is no one higher than Jesus Christ. He became a lowly child in a manger so that He can bring salvation to every one of us. Oh how we should praise Him everyday and never let up.
Is there something that keeps you from praising the Lord and giving Him the glory that He deserves? Don’t hesitate to praise to Him.  Lift Him up day and night.  Let your mind be stayed on him.  All creation praises Him – why should  be any different.
