Ministering Spirits

Hebrews 1:10-14

10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;

12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Buddhism has no account in its teaching about how the world came into existence.  Hindus believe Brahma created all things, and all beings on this earth came from a greater, higher consciousness. Islam teaches that all matter was in one place and Allah spoke causing it to explode (Big Bang).  None of these give any timeline for their explanation of creation, and these religions account for 60% of the world’s religious believers.  It seems only Christianity has a defined timeline that can be traced back to the original inhabitants of Earth.  That timeline says it was about 6,000 years ago that God created this world and all that is within it.  The Big Bang theorists say it was more like 4.5 billion years ago.  This brings the debate!  Science vs. God.  Can carbon dating really be trusted?  After all this is what science is using to date the earth, isn’t it?  One simple calculation measuring the breakdown cycle of carbon is used to refute the Bible.  And that method of measuring time has come under much scrutiny in recent years.  I believe the more scientists learn, the more they will prove the Biblical story rather than disprove it.  Science has a long way to go to catch up to God!

Take this universe for example.  Recently, reports have come out that say the universe is expanding more rapidly than before, and more rapidly than it should be. I have to ask the question “Who decides how fast the universe should expand?”.  Certainly not scientists!  They have absolutely no control.  But saying it is going faster than it should signifies that there has been a pattern in the past, and they expect it to stay the same in the future.  That is almost an admittance that someone or thing is in control of it!  I know who that is!  It is the God who made it all, who worked out the heavens with His hands.  He placed the stars and continues to place them.  These scholars who say a star blew up billions of years ago and we are just seeing the light from it now don’t take into effect the fact that the universe expands all the time.  That star was much closer to earth not all that long ago.  God continues to create stars and place them today, organizing them into galaxies and super galaxies, all to show off His glory.  Let us never forget the one who made it all and places all those stars.  His name is Jesus!

One day this universe will be done with.  Peter writes that the earth will burn with fervent heat.  This world will be destroyed, and a new heaven and new earth will come down to take it’s place.  As much as man wants to conquer this universe, and as much as they think it has always been and will always be, there is only one entity that will endure, and has endured, forever.  That is the God we serve.  Other religions do not refute the Bible story, they only give their own versions of it.  In a court of law, the prosecution must make its case.  If they do not, the defense wins, often without even going to trial.  This is because the evidence has to support the charges.  If it does not, there is no reason to go through a trial.  The matter is settled outside of court.  In this universe, the creation story stands on its own merits.  No one can refute it.  May we always fight to have this taught in the public forum so people will never forget who made this land that they stand on, eat from, and love.

As we said, the universe is constantly expanding and changing.  Stars are added, galaxies are newly discovered, and stars are moving all the time.  There is no wasted motion.   Someday it will end, but God never goes away.  He remains steadfast and loyal those who call on his name.  He does not change.  The word immutable is one that I have had on my mind for some time now.  We know the other words that describe God – omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent – but we forget about immutable.  Immutable means unchanging over time or unable to be changed.  There is such peace in knowing this is His characteristic.  If He healed before, He will heal now.  If He delivered before, He will deliver now.  If He parted seas and rivers before, He will do it now.  If He raised dead bones and gave them life, He will do it now.  If He rained down manna from heaven before, He will do it now.  He does not change.  Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever! For this reason, the angels are there to minister to the needs of the saints.  Jesus is always working, always moving in people’s lives, always making life better for His saints.  He uses the angels to do this, to deliver messages, to bring healing, to hold back obstacles, to lift weights of burden from our shoulders.  The angels are there in any way to guard over us as we walk with Him.  They are always around to answer His call and do His bidding, because they love to serve the one with the sceptre!  It is not a task they dread, but one they look forward to.  All of heaven breaks into a party when one soul is saved!  The angels applauded when you were saved.  Imagine that!  When we speak the name of Jesus, we get their attention!  Because when we speak His name, the angels know He will answer and they will be pout to work as His ministering Spirits.  What a delight to know this as fact.

The Only Wise God

1 Timothy 1:17

17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Our King is eternal. He was there in the beginning. The Word tells us God was there in the beginning (Genesis 1:1). The Word tells us the Holy Spirit was there at the beginning of creation (Genesis 1:2). The Word tell us that Jesus, who is the Word, was there at the beginning as God spoke the universe into existence (Genesis 1:3-27, John 1:1-14). He has always been. From the beginning of the beginning, the King was there.. He had no beginning because He always was. He preceded the sun and moon and stars. He preceded the vast expanse of space. He preceded time.

The King is eternal. He will never not be. He will never go away and leave His creation. He will reign in heaven and be there until the end of time (Revelation 22:13). He will be there after the earth is gone and a new heaven and earth appear (Revelation 21:1-2). He will wipe away all tears. There will be no more death, sorrow, pain or crying (Revelations 21:4). He will be there forever, ruling and reigning from His throne (Exodus 15:18). He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8). He was and He is and He will be. He is eternal.

The King is eternal. He is here with us right now. He will walk beside us through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4). He will be there to carry us close to His heart when we stumble and fall, and He will lead us through life (Isaiah 40:11). He will give us rest when we are weary (Matthew 11:28). He will give you peace in the midst of the storm and calm the wind and the waves (Mark 5:35-41).

The King is immortal. He will never die. He died once, but rose again to live forevermore. He gained victory over death (1 Corinthians 15:55) and will never succumb to it again. All the trees, plants, wildlife, insects, fish, birds, bacteria, and people will eventually die, but He will never die. He is invincible. He will not get sick, weary or fatigued but will reign and rule forever. Death has no power over Him and neither does this world he has overcome the world (John 16:33)

The King is invisible. On this earth, while still in our flesh, we cannot see Him because He is a Spirit (John 4:24). We can only see Him through out spiritual eyes. He will reveal Himself to those whom He chooses. His Spirit can go where it wants (John 3:8), when it wants, how it wants and to whom it wants. He can be many places at one time and also be in the hours ahead of us because He is not constrained to time.

The King is invisible. He can be a shield about me (Psalm 3:3). He can incline unto me to hear my prayer (Psalm 116:2). He is my hiding place. He preserves me from trouble. He encompasses me with deliverance (Psalm 32:7). He goes before me to clear the way from trouble (Deuteronomy 31:8). He is near me when I am brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He will never leave me or forsake me (Matthew 28:20). Even though I cannot see Him, I will trust Him (1 Peter 1:8).

The King is only wise. All wisdom comes from Him (Proverbs 2:6-8). Man’s wisdom seems is foolishness to God (1 Corinthians 2:19). God’s wisdom will protect us and watch over us (Proverbs 4:6). God’s wisdom is pure, impartial, peace-loving, considerate, submissive sincere and full of mercy and good fruit (James 3:17). His wisdom is unsearchable (Romans 11:33). His ways of wisdom are var above our ways (Isaiah 55:9).

The King is only wise. He gives His wisdom to those who please Him (Ecclesiastes 2:26). He gives wisdom to those who ask with unwavering faith (James 1:5). His wisdom gives us strength (Ecclesiastes 7:19). Wisdom will give us a future and a hope (Proverbs 24:14). Wisdom is better to attain than gold or precious jewels (Job 28:15-18). He who gets wisdom loves his own soul (Proverbs 19:8)

We should give Him honor. Honor is high esteem. We should give Him honor with our praise and worship. We should give Him honor by the way we treat one another (Matthew 25:35-40). We should give Him honor by our daily actions (Colossians 3:23-24). We should give honor to Him with the words we speak. Way to often we do not honor God in these ways and people see us as hypocrites. We should be honoring God and His word in everything we do. There are no exceptions or excuses.

We should give Him glory. We should be praising Him everywhere we go and in everything we do. We are to be a light on a hill, glorifying God with our good deeds (Matthew 5:16). Everything we say should glorify God. If we are ministering grace to those around us with our words, that glorifies God. How do you react when someone takes the Lord’s name in vain? Do we turn that around to give Him glory? He is glorious and mighty. His name is the most powerful name in the universe. His name should be glorified.

All of the above is not a one-time thing. It is not something that is true today but won’t be true tomorrow. These things are not truths you can believe today and decide not to believe tomorrow. They are forever and ever. Hey will always endure. They will always be true whether you believe them or not. He is the King who shall rule and reign for eternity. We must give Him the honor He deserves in our daily lives. We do this by being obedient and staying humble and meek.

Today give Him your all. Be that living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Don’t accept anything less for yourself. Give Him all of you and He will fill you up!
